Medication-assisted treatment in correctional system helpful, officials say

CHARLESTON - Despite low numbers of successful inmates, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources Bureau for Behavioral Health still believes a medication-assisted treatment program in the state's jails is worth it.

Elliot Birckhead, interim deputy commissioner, delivered the annual report on the addiction treatment pilot program to the Joint Committee on Health during Monday's final interim meeting.
