National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day – Honor in Corrections Supporting Our Youth
By New Hampshire Department of Corrections
Published: 01/10/2018

(Durham, NH) Representing Honor in the Corrections profession, the New Hampshire Department of Corrections Honor Guard recently had the privilege of escorting a fourth grader to the stage where she performed the National Anthem at a talent show. The girl, Cassie, is a student at the Mast Way Elementary School in Durham, and her parents contacted the Department to enlist the help of the four-member Honor Guard Team for her special performance.

The Honor Guard proudly marched in precision into the gymnasium with the American and New Hampshire flags flying high in order that all in the room would watch Cassie sing β€œThe Star-Spangled Banner,” which she did eloquently in enthusiastic Acapella. A large number of parents, children, and faculty were on hand to share in the experience.

The Department of Correction recognizes that there are events that are important to New Hampshire way of life such as parades, special functions at schools in the community, and other special events, which is why the Honor Guard Team exists.

These specially trained Corrections Officers are an integral part of the organization and reflect the professionalism and integrity of all of their Department of Corrections colleagues and their devotion to duty and service to the public. They are motivated to perform well giving a sense of pride and respect to the occasion whether it is festive like the school event or a somber one when they stand vigil at a wake or funeral of a fallen colleague.

The Corrections Honor Guard carried the colors into Fenway Park once for the performing of the National Anthem. Before the ceremony the Honor Guard posed for pictures with Cassie and Mast Way School principal Carrie Valch.
