ROCKFORD — Asphyxiation by hanging has been ruled the cause of death of a 19-year-old man found deceased early Saturday inside a Winnebago County Jail cell. The autopsy was performed Monday, and the results were released Tuesday by Winnebago/Boone Integrity Task Force Commander Sam Thomas. “Members of the Winnebago/Boone Integrity Task Force continue to garner information in this investigation, but circumstances surrounding this incident indicate that Matthew’s injuries were self-inflicted, alluding to an apparent suicide,” Thomas said.
