County seeks to add Cochise inmates to juvenile jail |

The county government is hoping to improve the financial outlook for the jail district by housing juvenile inmates from Cochise County. “The desire to partner is there by Santa Cruz and Cochise. It’s a matter of can we work out the details,” said Jennifer St. John, Santa Cruz County manager. The jail district has been a financial burden for the county since the 372-bed adult and 32-bed juvenile detention centers were completed in 2011, and the juvenile facility has struggled in recent years after the state shifted 25 percent of its juvenile corrections costs to the counties, St. John said.
