A man who had been serving a life sentence for murdering a Columbus businessman has died, the Georgia Department of Corrections said. Scott Lynn Christenson, 34, died May 1 at a Valdosta hospital. He had been brought to the hospital after collapsing at the Valdosta State Prison. "There was no fight and it was not self-inflicted," Corrections Department spokeswoman Peggy Chapman said. Chapman said she could not discuss any health problems Christenson may have had. Lowndes County Coroner Charles Exum said last Tuesday that Christenson visited and had lunch with his parents at the prison that morning. He then went out on the prison yard and was playing basketball when he collapsed. Corrections officers tried CPR and then called for an ambulance. Exum said the cause of death was not yet known but that Christenson had not been a victim of violence and had no injuries. Christenson had been serving a life sentence for the 1989 murder of Albert L. Oliver III, who was shot to death in Harris County. |
