Forty inmates were shipped to state prisons or other county jails after a near-riot involving gangs in the Pueblo County (Colo.) Jail. Pueblo County Sheriff Dan Corsentino said 28 prison inmates who were being held at the jail were shipped back to prisons on last Thursday. Twelve other unruly inmates were sent to jails in Fremont, El Paso and Douglas counties, said Corsentino. The trouble began about 7:15 p.m. last Wednesday in a low-security section of the jail, said Corsentino. About 20 to 25 inmates fought for about 20 minutes before tactical teams wielding Tasers and pepper spray separated them. "This was a major jail disturbance like we've never seen during my time here," said Corsentino, who is serving his fourth term as sheriff. He said two inmates suffered minor injuries in the fight, and were treated at the scene by jail medical staff. |
