Prison officers want protection from bodily fluid assaults
By Associated Press

Vermont prison officers and corrections officials want the state to crack down on inmates who assault prison staff with bodily fluids.
Officials went before the House Judiciary Committee last week and said such assaults can be punished now only as disorderly conduct.
But they say the attacks are especially degrading and pose health risks such as the spread of hepatitis or AIDS.
Committee Chairman William Lippert says he's inclined to create a new category of crime with tougher penalty. But he says he's not inclined to make the offense a felony, as the officers are requesting.
