LORAIN — The police department is reviewing protocols after a convict briefly escaped while being transported from the Lorain City Jail on Monday evening. At 4:46 p.m., Marshall Pitts, 23, of Elyria, ran away while being moved to Lorain County Jail with seven other inmates to a prisoner van, according to a police report. Still handcuffed, Pitts ran roughly a quarter mile until he was apprehended on the 1100 block of West Erie Avenue on the south side. It took about five minutes for law enforcement to apprehend Pitts. Pitts reportedly said he “wished the police had just shot him.” After securing Pitts with restraints to his legs and stomach, he was transported with the other inmates to the county jail and charged with escape. The incident, according to Lorain police Lt. Ed Super, happened due to the failure of set policies transporting inmates. Read More. |
