| Police dogs to train on Belknap County jail grounds |

LACONIA — Police K-9 units from central New Hampshire will soon be conducting training sessions on Belknap County property adjacent to the Belknap County House of Corrections. County commissioners on Tuesday gave preliminary approval to a proposed agreement with the Working Dog Foundation, a volunteer group affiliated with the New Hampshire Police K-9 Academy and which trains dogs for police use, for use of county property for training. “I think it’s a great idea,” said Commissioner Hunter Taylor (R-Alton), who said that the presence of police dogs on the property would serve as deterrent to property crime and drug dealing in adjacent residential areas.
