A massive manhunt was under way on Tuesday after a convicted burglar escaped a Florida Department of Corrections road-work crew on East Ocean Boulevard about 10:30 a.m. Authorities from Martin County, Stuart and the corrections department were searching Tuesday afternoon for William Hawley, 42, who has a criminal record that includes burglary and grand theft. The search was concentrated in the area of the Cedar Point retirement community near the Stuart Causeway. Hawley was described as about 5' 5" with brown hair and blue eyes. A Department of Corrections work crew uniform includes a light blue shirt and light blue pants similar to those worn by hospital orderlies. No Department of Corrections insignia is included on the uniform. |
