Eleven Officer Trainees Graduate the 107th NH Corrections Academy

(Concord, N.H) The New Hampshire Department of Corrections proudly announces the graduation of 11 Corrections Officer Trainees from the NH Police Standards and Training Council’s 107th NH Corrections Academy. A graduation ceremony was held on April 13, 2018 at the Arthur D. Kehas Law Enforcement Training Facility and Campus in Concord, NH.

The mandatory nine week academy provides officers with the tools and resources needed to work in a correctional environment and is the final step in their state certification process. These officers are deployed to the Department’s correctional facilities around the state. Graduating corrections officers have made the decision to positively impact the lives of others, every single day. Working with the Department of Corrections will provide a great, stable career for these new officers. They fulfilled the commitment to get their career underway in weeks – not years. Some of the graduates are military veterans whose transition into this career will put their existing skills go to good use whilst expanding their skills. In addition to military veterans, this classes diversity in careers prior to entering into correctional law enforcement were in the areas of x-ray technician, nursing, nuclear plant worker, car sales and machine operation. No matter your current career, correctional law enforcement can fit you.

Corrections Commissioner Helen Hanks provided the keynote address during the ceremony and reminded everyone that correctional employees are “more than just security,” that “we are the agents that motivate people to address long standing substance use issues, domestic violence behavior, advancing their parenting skills, and many more areas at the route of the reason people end up under our custody or supervision.”

“If we improve one person’s behavior, we improve a family, we make a better friend, we create a healthier community, and a better state. You have a mighty responsibility and I know you will do your very best every day to achieve it,” she concluded
