| Prison riot leaves inmate dead, three injured |

A riot broke out today at a state prison in Matamoros, Mexico -- leaving one inmate dead and three hurt. Officials say a fight between two rival prisoner groups escalated into a riot at the Santa Adelaida Two unit in Matamoros. Prison director Jose Jimenez says 35-year-old inmate Miguel Mejia was beaten and stabbed to death. Three other inmates sustained knife wounds and bone fractures and were taken to a hospital. State and federal police were sent in to help quell the riot -- which took five hours to control. Authorities are trying to figure out who stabbed the inmate who died. |
