Great Falls Youth Transition Center to close, state says |

HELENA – The head of the Montana Department of Corrections said Wednesday that the Great Falls Youth Transition Center, a group home for boys operated by the department, will close due to state budget woes on May 18. “It’s unfortunate that, as a result of cuts mandated by the Legislature, we had to make this difficult decision," DOC Director Reginald D. Michael said in a news release. "We have taken a hard look at programs and found that this is the most cost-effective solution.” "We remain committed to looking at alternatives to best serve these youth, while maintaining the important services we provide to keep communities safe,” he said. Reginald Michael The facility’s budget for Fiscal Year 2018 was $768,440, Michael said. The DOC is dealing with $40 million in budget cuts as the state faces a $227 million shortfall due to lower than expected revenues and an expensive fire season. Read More. |
