Lawsuit: Inmate put hit out on man who testified against him

An inmate at McCormick Correctional put a hit out on an inmate at another prison who testified against him at court, according to a lawsuit in federal court alleging state inaction led to that inmate being stabbed on one of four occasions. The Department of Corrections denies any wrongdoing.

Because of the circumstances alleged in the complaint, the Index-Journal is declining to name the inmates.

The document does not say whether the request was made by cellphone or by other means, such as spreading the message through an inmate transferring from one institution to another.
