Canon City's shuttered solitary confinement prison will remain closed after a House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday rejected a measure to renovate Centennial Correctional Facility-South, according to the Associated Press. In a report Tuesday afternoon, the Associated Press reported that the Department of Corrections has sought funding from the Legislature to reopen the prison because they are running out of prison space. The $208 million prison opened in 2010, but it closed two years later after the state phased out solitary confinement. Read More. |
