Jacksonville inmate brain dead

Relatives of a Duval County (Fla.) jail inmate are questioning how he ended up brain dead.
Police said John Laughon, 38, fought with officers three times in three days but had nothing more noticeable than scrapes and bruises.
He now has no brain function and reached the hospital in February with nine broken ribs. He is unresponsive after being removed from a ventilator at Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center.
Laughon was taken out of jail in restraints after the latest fight. Jailers sent him away for a mental health evaluation. A hospital nurse who saw Laughon when he arrived says his arms and legs were tied and he was wearing a blood-covered medical mask. Laughon has a history of seizures that cause aggressive behavior. He and a fellow inmate told relatives that he did not receive the seizure-control medication they took to the jail.
