Convicted killer charged with stabbing correctional officer has history of guard attacks |

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — The 79-year-old inmate accused of stabbing a correctional officer on Friday while serving a life sentence for killing another officer has been formally charged with multiple felonies. John Carillo was brought from the ACI into Kent County District Court to face charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, assault on a correctional officer, possession of a weapon other than a firearm and disorderly conduct for allegedly stabbing correctional officer Jason Messier with a handmade knife. Department of Corrections Inspector Frank Levesque said Carillo was returning from the recreation yard at the maximum security facility at the ACI Friday morning when he approached Messier, removing the sharp metal object from the waistband of his sweatpants.
