| Man Sentenced For Violent Jail Act |

A Saucier man serving a life sentence for murdering his wife has pleaded guilty to blinding a fellow inmate in the Harrison County Jail while both were awaiting trials in different cases. Harrison County Circuit Judge Jerry O. Terry sentenced 31 year old James Allen Gibson, to 15 years in prison for gouging out the eyes of inmate James Melear in December 2001. Melear, who was 64 at the time, was in the jail on sexual assault charges when Gibson attacked him. Melear's case is pending. Gibson is serving a life sentence in state prison after his conviction last year of killing his estranged wife, Cynthia, by slashing her throat in February 2001. |
