Prison inmate allegedly wanted to bomb Sydney's City2Surf

A prison inmate has allegedly spoken of wanting to set off a bomb at Sydney’s City2Surf fun run, sparking a bid under new anti-terror laws to keep him locked up.

The NSW government launched Supreme Court action to have a Continuing Detention Order (CDO), the first application of its kind, to have the 28-year-old held beyond his release date. The prison inmate was allegedly recorded as saying he wanted to "blow up" the City2Surf event.

The man, who cannot be named, is due to be released from Goulburn Correctional Centre on June 20, it has been reported.
