Gibbs named Georgetown County Detention Center Correctional Officer of the Month |

Georgetown County Sheriff Lane Cribb awarded Veronica Gibbs a certificate and a challenge coin Monday after she was recognized as the Georgetown County Detention Center’s Correctional Officer of the Month for May. Officer Gibbs came to the Detention Center in 2005 after retiring from the New York City Department of Corrections after 20 years of service at Rikers Island Prison. She has proven to be a loyal and dedicated employee, Cribb said. She saved Georgetown County an estimated $15,000 in May after an inmate clogged a sewer pipe with two shoes. Plumbers were able to remove one of the shoes, but Officer Gibbs wouldn’t give up until she pulled the second shoe from the pipe by hand. Read More. |
