Staffing, contraband continue to be issues for Arkansas Dept. of Correction director says |

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — Lawmakers received updates from state officials on several issues within the Arkansas Department of Correction, at a subcommittee hearing on Thursday. But also present at the table were nearly a dozen family members of people incarcerated in the system with issues of their own. Wendy Kelley, director of ADC, spent nearly ten minutes bringing the Correctional Institutions Legislative Subcommittee up to date on issues involving staffing, contraband and issues surrounding several major disturbances at ADC prisons last year. "The number one issue for the department is staffing," said Kelley, adding that the number of vacancies is down from about 570 to roughly 300 openings system-wide. Read More. |
