San Quentin guard attacked by inmate |

A 24-year-old San Jose man serving a 16-year manslaughter sentence attacked and injured a correctional officer at San Quentin State Prison on Monday, authorities said. The alleged attack occurred at 12:25 p.m. as the officer was escorting Jesus Pina from a medical appointment to his cell. Pina hit the guard in the face multiple times, fracturing an eye socket, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The officer fought back, but Pina allegedly grabbed him and tried to pull him into his cell. The CDCR reported that the officer managed to break free, secure the cell and activate the alarm.
