| Inmate awaiting rape sentence hangs himself |

A Calif. inmate who pleaded guilty last week to four counts of rape was found dead in his jail cell Saturday of an apparent suicide, authorities said. Thomas Adeyem, 22, was discovered unconscious on the floor of his cell at Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas. A bedsheet attached to his upper bunk was tied around his neck, said jail spokesman Mark Cursi. "He basically sat down and pulled it tight," Cursi said. Adeyem had faced up to 12 years in prison for the 2001 rapes in San Jose. He was set for sentencing June 24. Adeyem's cellmate found him on the floor at 4:23 a.m., Cursi said. "The initial investigation seems to clear the cellmate of any type of involvement," he said. "The determination seems to be suicide." |
