| Offender Death at Colorado State Penitentiary (Canon City, CO) |

On July21, 2018, a serious offender fight occurred at the Colorado State Penitentiary (Canon City, CO). The Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) has identified Thomas Laperch #172131 and another offender as the individuals involved in the incident. Offender Laperch was treated by medical staff and transported to the local hospital for his injuries. On July 22, 2018, offender Laperch passed away due to the injuries sustained in the altercation. The incident is currently under investigation by the CDOC Office of the Inspector General. At this time the homicide does not appear to be related to the homicide at Buena Vista Correctional Facility (BVCF) last week. No further details including the identity of the suspect can be released at this time due to the active investigation. |
