PAWNEE — A woman booked into the Pawnee County jail is dead after authorities said she was found in a cell with a gunshot wound and a gun lying on her stomach. Brittany Weide DeVerges, 26, was arrested about 3 a.m. Tuesday on complaints of public intoxication and possession of paraphernalia. She was taken to the jail and placed in a detox cell, officials said. About 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, jail staff observed DeVerges and determined she should remain in the detox cell. About noon, she was found unresponsive in the cell. Jail staff said a handgun was lying on her stomach and she had an apparent gunshot wound to her chest. Read More. |
