MERCER — The Pennsylvania State Police and state Department of Corrections officials are investigating an incident at the State Correctional Institution at Mercer that sickened six staff members on Monday. According to officials at the 1,485-prisoner men’s facility in Findley Township, Mercer County, the six employees were searching a cell and packing inmate property on Monday at about 2 p.m. when they either came in contact with a suspicious substance or had been in contact with someone who had contact with the substance. The employees were sent to Grove City Hospital, and one employee required the administration of the opioid-overdose antidote Narcan and was admitted to the hospital. Five of the employees were treated and released from the hospital, Department of Corrections officials reported. Officials said they were informed that the entire hospital, including the emergency room, was shut down for decontamination because of the incident. Read More. |
