Prison inmates train service dogs |

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (WEAU)-- A partnership between the Jackson Correctional Institute in Black River Falls and a non-profit is benefiting much more than just the inmates. 'Can Do Canines' is a non-profit that trains service dogs. They started a program at the prison last year. "The guys learn all sorts of skills that isn't just dog training," said Dyan Scott, 'Can Do Canines' prison program instructor. "So they're learning patience, they're learning how to work with people, they become better parents from being in the program." "I mean, I always tried to do my best," said an inmate named Josh, "even before the program, but this program definitely helps me think of more than just myself." Read More. |
