| Inmate snack fight lands one in hospital |

An Onslow County Jail inmate is accused of sending another inmate to the hospital after arguing about snacks. Mahdi A. Sharpless, 44, formerly of Branch Drive in Jacksonville was charged Aug. 8 by the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office with felony assault by strangulation. Sharpless is accused of strangling another inmate, Dakotah Hiatt, leaving redness on his neck and giving him a black eye, according to warrants. Hiatt, a 21-year-old Camp Lejeune Marine, is in jail on two counts of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor after being accused of downloading child porn, The Daily News reported.
