Inmate death reported at detention center

An inmate at the Aiken County (S.C.) Detention Center died last Tuesday in his cell. The inmate has been identified as 65-year-old William F. Ayers of Blackville.
"About 5:30pm, a detention officer discovered Ayers sweating profusely and having difficulty breathing," said Captain Barney Eagerton, of the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.
An autopsy to determine cause of death is underway in Newberry, South Carolina.
Ayers had been held at the Aiken County Detention Center since April 29 pending a hearing and trial in accordance with the Sexually Violent Predator Act.
