| Officials work to improve safety at PA prisons after 18 staff sickened this month |

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Officials say the Department of Corrections is taking "aggressive measures" to address threats to staff and inmate safety within prisons. The initiative to improve safety comes after 18 staff members at three institutions in western Pennsylvania were sickened by an exposure to an unknown substance. At the beginning of August, six Mercer County Correctional Institution employees were taken to the hospital after they came into contact with a suspicious substance while searching a cell. All were taken to the Grove City Hospital with one needing Narcan. Read More. |
