25-year-old inmate dies after medical emergency at Ventura County jail, officials say |

A Ventura County jail inmate died last week after a medical emergency that caused his death, officials said Monday night. Rey Manuel Zavala, 25, of Moorpark, had an unspecified medical emergency in a day room of the jail around 10:50 a.m. Sept. 12, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. Deputies and medical staff rendered emergency aid, and firefighters and paramedics were called in for more advanced care, authorities said. Zavala was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where he was released from custody due to the seriousness of his condition and out of deference to his family, according to sheriff's officials. He was transferred to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital later that day for further treatment and pronounced dead Sept. 13. Read More. |
