| Corrections officer attacked by inmates at Central California prison dies |

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A correctional officer attacked by inmates at Kern Valley State Prison last April has died, according to statements from the California Correctional Peace Officers Association and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. In the alleged attack, Officer Armando Gallegos suffered injuries to his face, neck, and head, according to CCPOA. On Sept. 14, Gallegos collapsed and became unresponsive. The cause of death is pending, but the peace officers association believes the death is due to injuries from the attack. Read More. |
