Report: Two staff members seriously hurt in inmate assaults at Neb. State Penitentiary |

LINCOLN, Neb. — In two separate incidents, two staff members at the Nebraska State Penitentiary were seriously hurt by inmates, according to a news release from the Department of Corrections. The first incident happened Oct. 2, staff members went to stop an inmate who was trying to open a secure door. When they tried to restrain him, officials said he assaulted officers. One staff member fractured a thumb, two others suffered non-serious injuries. The second incident happened the evening of Oct. 3. When a staff member followed an inmate into a room, the inmate kicked the door closed on the staff member's hand. That person fractured a finger, according to the news release. Read More. |
