Three employees at the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville, W. Va., have been fired and a fourth employees has been reprimanded, for their roles in last month's mistaken release of an inmate, officials said. The escapee, Allen Baird, a 28-year-old Detroit man, is still on the loose. Baird was brought to the jail April 19 on a fugitive from justice warrant from Michigan for a parole violation. Two days later, another inmate who was scheduled to be released on bail slipped off his identification wristband and gave it to Baird, who ended up being released. The other inmate, Broc Whitfield, has been charged with aiding and abetting and destruction of state property. |
