A 16-year employee of the Kane County (Ill.) sheriff's office has been charged with stealing cash and jewelry from County Jail inmates over the last four years, authorities said last Monday.
Albert Jackson, 42, of the 100 block of Martin Avenue, Montgomery, was taken into custody May 20 and charged with two counts of official misconduct, one count of felony theft and one count of misdemeanor theft.
Jackson is accused of stealing property while working as an officer in the booking area of the Kane County Jail for the last four years.
"We believe the value of the stolen items will run into the thousands of dollars," Kane County Sheriff Ken Ramsey said last Monday. "We have not compiled a total as of yet."
Jackson submitted his resignation at the time of his arrest and was freed after posting 10 percent of a $50,000 bail. He will appear in court on June 6, officials said.
