Inmate visits up after changes to jail visitation system |

Visits to inmates at the Yolo County jail increased by over 100 percent following changes made to scheduling methods and days of visitation, according to Sheriff-elect Tom Lopez. The scheduling changes were made in the wake of a Yolo County Grand Jury report last spring that found the method of scheduling visits was “unduly restrictive and inconvenient” by requiring relatives and friends of inmates to call the jail between midnight on Sundays and 7 a.m. on Mondays — when people typically are asleep — in order to schedule a visit for the week ahead. “Now any time during the week an appointment can be scheduled for family visits,” Lopez told the Yolo County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.
