JEFFERSON CITY • An inmate at the Jefferson City Correctional Center broke free from his restraints and cut the face of a corrections officer on Monday, a Missouri Department of Corrections spokeswoman said on Tuesday. Karen Pojmann, department spokeswoman, said in an email the officer was leading an inmate to a "segregated housing unit" when the inmate "freed his hand from the restraints and attacked the officer with a homemade weapon hidden in his clothing." She said about six officers responded "swiftly and decisively" but not before the inmate cut the officer's face. The department did not release the name of the inmate or the officer. "After receiving first aid in the facility’s medical unit, he was taken to an outside medical facility, where his wounds were treated and stitched … ," Pojmann said. "He chose to return to work later that day." Read More. |
