Mental evaluation to be done on jail inmate accused of killing cellmate |

A judge on Monday appointed a psychiatrist to evaluate the mental fitness of a Ventura County jail inmate accused of killing his cellmate last month. The decision was made after Vu Cong Dao's defense attorney, Benjamin Maserang, declared doubt as to his client's mental capacity during an arraignment hearing in Ventura County Superior Court. Dao, 35, of Palmdale, has been charged with murder in the death of fellow inmate Michael Torres. Torres, 61, of Oxnard, was found unresponsive Oct. 25 in the cell he shared with Dao, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. Read More. |
