Inmates set trash fires, refuse to go back to cells at Broad River Correctional |

COLUMBIA, SC (WSPA) - South Carolina Department of Corrections officials said a housing unit at Broad River Correctional Institution has been secured after several inmates reportedly refused to return to their cells and set small trash cans on fire on Monday. According to Interim Communications Director Dexter Lee, the incident involved inmates in the Murray housing unit at Broad River. "The inmates did set small trash can fires within the unit. The housing unit was secured around 2:30 p.m. this afternoon," Lee said. "All inmates were in their cells and the fires were extinguished. There was not threat to public safety." Read More. |
