HOLTON, Kan. (WIBW) -- An inmate briefly escaped Wednesday afternoon when the private company taking him to Topeka made a stop in Holton, the Jackson Co. Sheriff’s Office.

Jackson Co. Sheriff Tim Morse explained the company was transporting Jacob Daniel Kull from a Kansas City, Missouri, jail to Shawnee Co. around 1 p.m. when its officers stopped in his county to pick up another inmate. While one of the officers was waiting to take custody of the other inmate, the other officer took Kull to the public restroom.

While in the restroom, Kull, 38, reportedly slipped out of his handcuffs and assaulted the officer. He fled through the lobby and headed outside. He didn’t even make it out of the parking lot before Jackson Co. Sheriff’s Officers and Corrections Officers subdued him, Morse said.
