Woman faces trial on escape charge

VERNON TOWNSHIP — A prisoner from the State Correctional Institute at Cambridge Springs who failed to report to a halfway house in Pittsburgh almost 18 months ago now will stand trial for escaping.

Brenda Lee Keener, 46, waived her right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Lincoln Zilhaver on a charge of escape and automatically was ordered held for trial by Magisterial District Judge Lincoln Zilhaver.

Keener was arrested in October and charged by Pennsylvania State Police with escape for failing to report to Renewal #2 Center on June 26, 2017. Renewal Inc., based in Pittsburgh, operates programs to help prisoners transition back into society.
