A Marion County (Ind.) Jail inmate died Friday shortly after sweeping out his cell. Jail officers found Larry Craig, 56, Indianapolis, unconscious in his bunk at 11:46 a.m. and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation, according to a Marion County Sheriff's Department report.
Indianapolis Fire Department paramedics arrived a few minutes later and also tried CPR. Craig was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Craig's cellmate told officers he was breathing hard in his bunk after sweeping the cell at 10:30 a.m., according to the sheriff's report. When Craig wouldn't wake up for lunch at 11:37 a.m., his cellmate called for the guards.
Lawrence police arrested Craig at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for felony cocaine possession, said Marion County Sheriff's Maj. Larry Jahnke. Officers took Craig to Wishard before sending him to jail because he was intoxicated, Jahnke said.
