RICHMOND – Just past 6:30 this morning, two officers at Red Onion State Prison were attacked by an inmate at the Pound, Virginia facility. One officer received puncture wounds to his upper body, and the other officer appears to have sustained a broken knee. Both corrections officers are being treated at the Norton Community Hospital and are expected to be released today. The 31-year old offender who attacked the officers is serving a 65-year sentence for five counts of robbery and seven counts of using a firearm in commission of a felony. A homemade weapon appears to have been involved in this morning’s incident. |
