A Peabody, Mass. man behind bars awaiting trial on rape and kidnapping charges was also charged today in federal court with trying to hire someone to kill his estranged wife. Prosecutors say 30-year-old Guillermo Frederico Vasco was in the Essex County jail in February when he approached another inmate and asked if he knew anyone who would kill his wife. The other detainee told officials. Prosecutors say an ATF agent posing as an attorney met with Vasco in the jail and the two discussed a deal to kill Vasco's wife and dispose of her body in exchange for $10,000. The death was then faked, and pictures shown to Vasco.
When he tried to make the deal, Vasco was awaiting trial on charges he raped and kidnapped his estranged wife.
