Missouri Department of Corrections officials confirmed corrections officers thwarted an attempted escape Wednesday at the Jefferson City Correctional Center. According to DOC spokesman Garry Brix, the incident occurred in the early morning hours. Brix said a corrections officer noticed an offender with a fresh minor injury as the officer was doing a security check of a two-man cell. Upon questioning, the two offenders admitted they were attempting to escape through the housing unit window, which they had broken. "Had the inmates successfully exited the housing unit, they would have been contained in the secure perimeter," Brix said. "The matter is pending investigation." Read More. |
