WILSONVILLE, Ore. — Inmates at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville have a lot of time. Time to think about their past; time to consider the decisions and mistakes that landed them in Oregon's only women's prison. But time goes both ways. It's not just about the past. Inmates also have time to plan for the future, to work on who they want to be when their sentences are completed, when they've repaid their debts to society and are released to resume their lives, not as convicts - but as citizens. Yet escaping that past isn't a simple waiting game. It takes work, and for many of these inmates, that work and the results they're working toward are hampered by constant glaring reminders of their former lives, lives fueled by drugs, violence, gangs and domestic abuse.
