In 1986, when he was 16, Jacob Wideman killed another teenager in Flagstaff, plunging a knife into the boy's chest as he slept. It was a senseless crime that Wideman couldn't explain. He confessed and was sentenced to life in prison with a chance of parole after 25 years. He did his time and then some, and after 30 years in prison and seven appearances before the parole board, he was released on home arrest in 2016.
