Inmate death at Ocala jail was a suicide |

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office have completed their review of the death of jail inmate Daniel Vanhorn. The conclusion: He committed suicide, and no jail workers involved in the case violated any law or protocol. Assistant State Attorney Janine Nixon wrote in a memo that, based on the information provided to her office, “I find no reason to conclude that any law enforcement officers (or anyone else) violated any criminal statutes relating to Mr. Vanhorn’s death.” Nixon wrote that the “jail staff conducted their security checks as prescribed by Sheriff’s policy.
