An inmate at California's Pitchess Detention Center was rushed to a local hospital Tuesday morning with major injuries suffered in a fight with another inmate, authorities said.
The injured inmate, a 35-year-old man, was in critical condition but stable at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, according to sheriff's Lt. Victor Allende of the North County Correctional Facility at Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic.
The assault occurred at 8:15 a.m. in one of the inmate dorms, Allende said. The inmate, whom Allende would not identify, was taken by ambulance to the hospital about 20 minutes after the incident.
Allende did not release the names of anyone who might have been involved in the assault.
"We haven't identified any suspects at this time," Allende said. "There's an investigation into this, so we're not releasing any information about the (injured inmate) or about what led to the assault."
