An escaped Houston, Texas, inmate was back in police custody Thursday after escaping from police and spending more than two hours on the run.
Maurice Bernard Hawkins, 32, who was in jail for stealing a car, slipped away from authorities Wednesday at about 8 p.m. while he helped the District Attorney's Office on another investigation.
Extra units were called in and a police helicopter was used to search the downtown area near San Jacinto.
The Gulf Coast Violent Offender Task Force found Hawkins at about 10 p.m. on Valley Forge near Briar Forest in west Houston.
Authorities have not said if Hawkins will be charged.
